How long does hair botox last and how often should you repeat it

It’s the question every stylist hears on repeat: how long will this actually last? The honest answer isn’t a fixed number, it’s a diagnosis. How long hair botox lasts depends on the real condition of your hair fibre, not on a generic schedule that fits everyone equally.

At Raffel Pagès Sitges, we see very different heads of hair pass through the salon every week: virgin hair, freshly bleached hair, hair styled with a flat iron daily. And even though everyone leaves with the same treatment, not everyone keeps the results for the same length of time. Understanding why is what actually helps you plan when to come back.

How long does hair botox last under normal conditions?

As a general reference, hair botox tends to last between 4 and 6 weeks. On healthy hair, with little exposure to chemical processes and good at-home aftercare, that window can stretch to 7 or 8 weeks. On the other end, hair heavily damaged by dye, bleach or heat styling can start losing the effect as early as week four.

This range isn’t random: it reflects how the treatment actually works. Hair botox temporarily fills damaged fibre with nutrients, collagen and hyaluronic acid. It doesn’t repair the hair permanently, so as hair grows and gets washed, that filler naturally wears off.

What makes the effect last longer or fade faster

Before setting a date to repeat the treatment, it’s worth checking what’s working for or against your hair. Not everything depends on the product used in the salon — your daily routine at home matters just as much, if not more.

  • Porosity and prior damage: the more porous or chemically processed the hair, the sooner it “asks” for a repeat session.
  • Wash frequency: washing daily dilutes the effect faster than washing every two or three days.
  • Heat styling: flat irons and blow-dryers without heat protection speed up the wear.
  • Recent colour or bleaching: coloured hair loses the filler more quickly.
  • Aftercare products: a sulphate shampoo literally washes the results out ahead of time.

Seen this way, these factors explain why two people getting the exact same treatment on the same day can notice the effect for one month in one case and two months in the other. Aftercare is, in practice, half of the result.

Signs the effect is fading

More useful than counting weeks on a calendar is learning to read your own hair. There are fairly clear signs that hair botox is losing strength and it’s time to think about a new session.

The frizz that had disappeared starts creeping back, especially in humid weather. Ends regain that dry feel to the touch, and the even shine the treatment left behind turns duller in the mid-lengths and ends. When two or more of these signs show up at once, it’s time to book an appointment rather than wait for hair to return fully to its original state.

With those factors on the table, the recommendation stops being a rigid figure and becomes a guiding range based on hair type:

  • Fine, damaged or heavily processed hair: roughly every 4 weeks.
  • Mixed hair with regular at-home care: every 5 to 6 weeks.
  • Healthy, well-maintained hair: every 6 to 8 weeks.

There are also two times of year when we usually see a spike in bookings: the end of summer, once sun, chlorine and salt water have taken their toll, and early spring, when hair arrives weakened from a winter of constant heat-tool use. In our experience at Raffel Pagès Sitges, bringing the session forward at those points avoids reaching a level of damage that’s harder to reverse, instead of waiting until the hair is crying out for it.

How to make the effect last longer between sessions

Part of the result is decided at home, not just in the salon. When working with clients who want to stretch the effect as far as possible, we always come back to three specific habits.

Using a sulphate-free shampoo stops the treatment from washing out prematurely with every wash. Applying a nourishing hair mask once a week reinforces the filler that hair botox provides between sessions. And cutting back on high-heat styling — or at least always using a heat protectant first — helps the hair fibre hold on to what it’s gained for longer.
